The Joy Project
Volume 1
The Joy Project focuses on African American men and joy. Joy to me is really a four-letter word - love. In this book, we get to see images of these men and read their own unfiltered words about what brings them joy. It is said that happiness depends on happenings but joy is something that rests deep within a person’s soul. Joy allows you to practice love on a deeper level. It is a form of self-love that radiates to those who are the object of your joy.
There are not many spaces in this culture that encourage African American men to have joy. I want this book to be one of those rare spaces. Given the deep polarization in the country along race and class lines, it is important that African American men find moments of joy. Why? Because it just may save our lives.
